Video Game-Themed Weddings

With Wreck-It Ralph making us feel a little nostalgic for video games — and a little sympathetic toward the most hated villains — we've compiled some of our favorite gaming-themed weddings, from Super Mario Bros. to Rock Band to Halo.

Nintendo

There are so many fun ways to incorporate Nintendo elements in your wedding, starting with the proposal: Hide the engagement ring inside of this classic question mark box!

Nintendo superfans Esther and Ryan enlisted friend Larry Quach to custom-design invitations, favor boxes, and more for their Super Mario Bros. theme wedding:

For the seating chart, each table was assigned a Nintendo character mascot.

The favors: Question-mark boxes filled with gold coins.

Esther and Ryan aren't the only couple including Mario and Luigi in their wedding day. We came across so many incredible ideas, from super-detailed cakes:

For their gaming-themed wedding, Val and Brendan named each of their tables after locations in their favorite video games:

Near the end of the night, they pulled out a Mario piñata filled with — what else — gold coins!

But Super Mario Bros. isn't the only popular Nintendo series serving as wedding inspiration. These engagement rings and wedding bands are modeled after the sacred Triforce relic that appears throughout the Legend of Zelda series:

You can also turn the Triforce or a Boss Key into a necklace:

Rock Band

For Adele and John's first dance, they required a few props: a projector, a screen, an Xbox, and their favorite game, "Rock Band." They grabbed the guitars and rocked out to a rendition of a song by their favorite band, Coheed and Cambria. Their families then joined in on the fun and performed "The Power of Love." Afterward, they moved the gaming equipment to a special area where guests could do their best Jimi Hendrix impressions all night long.

Halo

Desirai and John's shared love of Halo brought them together — they met through Xbox Live and began regularly playing as teammates, making small talk between matches and quickly becoming friends. One day, when Desirai signed on to play a game with John, he wasn't online. She left him a message with her number, telling him to call if he wanted to play. "I never thought he'd actually call, but I'm glad he did." After that initial phone call, they began spending more time on the phone than playing the game, and they officially started dating in March of 2005, despite having never met in person. The following month, they finally met face-to-face — and three months later, Desirai moved down to Florida to attend college and be with John. After John proposed on their three-year anniversary, they knew that their wedding theme would be "A Match Made in Halo."

Minecraft

Matt and Asia bonded over their love of the game of Minecraft. "They built a house together in the digital world and have been inseparable ever since, both in the game and in real life," said their photographer, The Goodness. Matt even proposed to Asia on stage at MineCon, a Minecraft convention. Given their history, it was no surprise when they chose Minecraft for their wedding theme. They created pixel trees and characters from cardboard boxes, displayed artwork from the game, and even ordered custom Jones soda with emblems from the game on the labels.
