Abby Sayles suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is being treated at the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancers in Albany, New York. Cut down on costs by hosting a rehearsal dinner for the bridal party and immediate family members, followed by a welcome party where you open it up to all of the guests for drinks and desserts. If you can afford to host it, great! If not, you could always select a location just to have out-of-town guests meet for a drink that evening, and everyone covers their own cocktails.
