David: When was it that we fell in love? When we were 18? 16? Maybe 10. I don't know 'cause the truth is I can't picture a time when I wasn't in love with you. I always knew you were the one that could look into my eyes and see my soul. I don't question your commitment to us and I know there's nothing that we can't work through. And I accept you as my partner and as my best friend above all others. It's a miracle to find the kind of peace and happiness that you've given me, and in honor of that miracle, I pledge before our family and friends to love and to cherish you forever.

Donna: I look at you and I see my best friend. Your energy and your passion inspire me in ways I never thought possible. Your inner beauty is so strong that I no longer fear being myself. I no longer fear at all. I never thought that I could find someone to love that would love me back unconditionally. And that I realized that although we are often apart, you are always with me, that you are my soulmate. You give me purpose when I feel I have none. Without you my soul would be empty, my heart broken, my being incomplete. I thank God every day that you were brought into my life, and I thank you for loving me.

Friends: Monica Gellar & Chandler Bing

There was a lot going on before this wedding — pregnancy tests, a freaked out groom and a missing Joey. In the end, everything came together in a beautiful event. But it wouldn't be a Friends wedding if the vows weren't a little funny:

Monica: Chandler, for so long I wondered if I would ever find my prince, my soulmate. Then three years ago, at a another wedding, I turned to a friend for comfort and instead I found everything I'd been looking for my whole life. And now, here we are, with our future before us, and I only want to spend it with you, my prince, my soulmate, my friend...unless you don't want to. You go.

Chandler: Monica, I thought this was going to be the most difficult thing I had to do, but when i saw you walking down that aisle I realized how simple it was. I love you. Any surprises that come our way, it's OK because I will always love you. You are the person I was meant to spend the rest of my life with.

ER: Luka Kovac & Abby Lockhart

This long-awaited wedding (mainly on Luka's part) was put together in record time and made up of a mishmash of decorative elements, but it turned out pretty amazing. Even though Abby fidgeted her way through the ceremony, the words she chose were absolutely perfect:

Luka: Be my wife. I offer myself with all my faults and strengths. We'll help each other when we need help and work together to raise our son. I choose you as the person I will love and honor for the rest of my days.

Abby: First of all, I love you. I do. And you've helped me through a lot. We got here together with a beautiful little boy. I was thinking of a poem* before when I was getting ready. I think it starts, I carry your heart in my heart. I'm never without it. Anywhere I go, you go. I'm probably messing the whole thing up, but I think the end goes, and this is the wonder that keeps the stars apart. I carry your heart. I carry it in my heart. So i guess what I'm saying is, let's just try to love each other and persevere.

*Just in case you were wondering, the poem Abby was trying to remember was "I Carry Your Heart with Me" by E.E. Cummings.

Grey's Anatomy: Preston Burke & Christina Yang

Although they never got married, his vows did make everyone in the operating room shed a tear. Who knew the cool-as-ice surgeon was such a romantic? Too bad Christina never heard them.

Christina, I could promise to hold you and to cherish you. I can promise to be there in sickness and in health. I could say til death do us part, but I won't. Those vows are for optimistic couples, the ones full of hope, and I do not stand here on my wedding day optimistic or full of hope. I am not optimistic. I am not hopeful. I am sure. I am steady. And I know that I am a heart man. I take them apart. I put them back together. I hold them in my hands. I am a heart man. So this I am sure. You are my partner, my lover my very best friend. My heart beats for you and on this day, the day of our wedding, I promise you this. I promise you to lay my heart in the palm of your hands. I promise you me.

Grey's Anatomy: Derek Shepherd & Meredith Grey

I admit, I thought this Post-It wedding was a little hokey, but it really is typical Mer-Der. We all knew a big, fancy wedding was not going to happen for these two crazy kids. Kudos to the writers for being true to the characters:

ABC

To love each other even when we hate each other.
No running — ever. Nobody walks out no matter what happens.
We'll take care of each other even when we're old and smelly and senile.
This is forever.
