Biggest Bridesmaid Dilemmas: Solved!

How to handle sticky situations with grace, including what to do when you can't afford to buy the dress that the bride wants, you're the only bridesmaid who isn't close with the rest of the girls, and more.

Dilemma: The maid of honor tries to take credit for your ideas.

Problem Solved:

This happens often in workplace environments, so it’s no surprise that the credit-stealer phenomenon also pops up in bridal parties. Bridesmaids aren't the only ones who do this—even Mom might get carried away, too!

What to do: Bring up your best ideas during planning meetings when the entire gang is present. Show them inspiration images from your smartphone or tablet, which lessens the chance that anyone else can take credit for it. Or, if you live far away, pose ideas to the entire group via email (not just the maid of honor), so there's no question of who came up with what brilliant plan!

Don’t let it turn into a Mean Girls situation and waste your time with passive-aggressive notes to the bride: "I hear you liked (insert maid of honor's name here) idea for us to go to a concert instead of bar-hopping for your bachelorette party. Just wanted to let you know that was my idea..." She's likely to just email you back with a quick "thank you" and pray that there's no more drama during her wedding-planning season.
