Guest Blog: High Adventures

In my experience, not all honeymooners are content to lounge on a beach sipping piña coladas after their wedding. Some couples are thrill seekers that really want to get their hearts pumping post-swapping vows. For those of you looking for a lot more excitement, here are three perennial favorites:

New Zealand: You may have just gotten hitched, but have you zorbed together yet?! "Zorbing" involves rolling down a hill inside a large inflatable ball, and it’s become one of the Kiwi country’s signature adventure offerings. Adrenaline-seekers who head to New Zealand can also bungee jump (the activity was invented here), heli-hike on glaciers, and mountain bike, all against a breathtakingly beautiful scenic backdrop. For less of a scream, tour the wine region of Marlborough and enjoy some of the freshest and most innovative cuisine in the world.

Chile: Argentina may be considered the glamorous South American destination, but Chile is where the true adventurers head. Patagonia is magnificently picturesque and while you could easily spend your entire honeymoon exploring Torres del Paine National Park, you should also check out the lesser-known Atacama Desert. Here you can hike, horseback ride and bicycle through the haunting landscape. Don’t forget a visit to Easter Island—the most remote and inhabited isle on the planet—where you can learn about those funky and mysterious moai sculptures that dot the landscape.

Zambia: If the idea of walking among lions and rhinos excites you, Zambia is for you. Walking safaris like Absolute Travel’s Zambian Amble allow you to see the wildlife up close while exploring the countryside on foot (as opposed to being in a 4x4 vehicle), and enjoy the solitude of bush camps. Accompanied by trained wildlife trackers, guests enjoy the thrill of an authentic and unforgettable wilderness experience.
