Wedding Weight-Loss: Preparing for the Holidays

During my Sunday weigh-in, I was down another two pounds! That leaves me with just two more pounds to lose in order to reach my 10 pound goal for November. I think with one week left, it’s absolutely possible and I will do it.

Last Sunday’s workout with Bonne Marcus was excellent! She said she knows that during the week when we do the routine ourselves we are not doing it two times through (she’s right…), so she had us do a three-segment workout two times through. The workout consisted of a leg exercise, arm exercises, and then an ab exercise. The first segment was lunges on the Frisbee, where you squat down and put your hands on the floor, kick your leg back, pull your leg back in the original squat position, stand up, and do it again, 20 times total. This was so hard! Arm exercises were a mix of bicep curls, rowing with the band, tricep extensions, and pushups. And for the abs, we did pull-over crunches with a 10-pound dumbbell and mountain climbs in a plank position. If you want a quick and easy workout, I highly suggest trying the lunges I mention. You can use a small towel or anything to help slide your leg, but it really burns and will give you an excellent quick workout!

One of my favorite parts of this process so far (aside from the way my butt is starting to look) is going through this all with Rene. He has been so amazing and motivating for me, telling me I can do it when I say I can’t. At 5 a.m., he’s on the elliptical next to me, and on Sunday mornings at Bonne’s, he is helping me up off the ground. He is down over 30 pounds too so far, and I couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s going to be the most handsome groom there is, and I’m so lucky he’s mine.

Before our Sunday workout, Rene and I went to out with some friends to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (which was awesome!) and went to TGI Fridays for a few drinks. I discovered my new favorite drink, The Skinny Blackberry Margarita. It has only 110 calories in each drink; it's absolutely amazing and almost too good to be true. Below are the ingredients so you can try making it yourself. I know I plan on making it for all of the upcoming holiday parties and gatherings.

Bonne suggested that with Thanksgiving this week, I increase my cardio to make sure I’m burning enough calories. I plan on doing cardio Thursday morning at the gym before the big feast and again on Friday so I can burn as much as possible. To help me to not over eat on Thursday, I am making some healthy side dishes I know won’t make me gain a lot. I plan on making a side of sweet potato fries (cut up the sweet potatoes in strips, spray with olive oil spray and sprinkle garlic powder, salt and pepper, bake for 40 minutes on 400 degrees), and a side of roasted brussel sprouts. I know by filling up on these delicious but healthy side dishes, it will help me not choose the buttered corn or the breads. For dessert, I am also bringing a 90-calorie Jell-O cup with fat-free Cool Whip to enjoy while everyone else enjoys my mom’s chocolate chip cookies and pies.

By planning ahead, I can enjoy Thanksgiving guilt-free and not starve myself. After all, it only comes once a year! Wishing everyone and their families a very happy Thanksgiving!
