Kim & Kanye Will Get Married This Week

Though it's been well publicized that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West will tie the knot in France on May 24, TMZ revealed that they'll actually make it legal some time this week.

The reason? Last month, the couple found out that French law requires one of them to live in the country for at least 40 days before the wedding; although Kanye has an apartment in Paris, it's not his primary residence. To avoid the legal headache, the couple decided to have a simple civil ceremony stateside before their lavish wedding in France, rumored to be taking place at either Château Louis XIV or Château de Louveciennes.

"Typically, the U.S. recognizes citizens getting married in France, but dealing with a foreign government and paperwork could be a nightmare," a source told the Daily Mail"So just to make sure it’s legal, Kim and Kanye will first be having a civil ceremony in Southern California."

The couple attempted to keep the courthouse wedding a secret by obtaining a "confidential" marriage license, which means it won't become a public record, they don't need any witnesses, and they don't even need to appear in the courthouse (and risk being spotted by paparazzi) — an official from the court can perform the ceremony privately in their own home. Now that word is out, though, we'll be keeping an eye on Kim's Instagram for photos!
