Sweet Dreams

41. If your parents or grandparents kept their wedding cake topper as a memento, consider borrowing it to use on your own confection.

42. Have a favorite painting, sculpture or piece of art? Ask your baker to re-create that Monet or Rodin in frosting on your cake. If Fabergé eggs are more your thing, or if you have a treasured jewelry box from childhood, let these inspire the design of your cake.

43. If you crave chocolate but he's a cheesecake man, why not have the best of both flavors? Many bakers will create a different type of confection for each wedding cake layer.

44. Traditional wedding cakes aren't for everyone. Ask your baker to stack your favorite treats—cupcakes, donuts or cream puffs, for example—on tiered cake stands.

45. Ask your baker to decorate your cake with your and your groom's initials. To continue the theme, lay a table runner embroidered with your monogram on the cake table.

46. Or, encourage your baker to incorporate your wedding vows into the design of the cake. Phrases like "I do," "love and honor" and "all the days of my life" can be written in frosting.

Grand Good-byes

47. "Wedding favors are a great way to share something that's very personal to you," says Allen. Two of her former clients raise bees and make their own honey, and they gave out small jars of the sweet, sticky stuff to their guests. Cookies or fudge made from a family recipe (you can include those directions on attached tags) are also special giveaways.

48. In lieu of standard favors like candy, picture frames or candles, make a donation to a favorite charity on behalf of your guests. The I Do Foundation offers a simple and easy way to make your donation. You can choose an organization from their list or suggest your own. Place cards are also available for purchase to let your guests know about the special gift.

49. End your party with a bang! Invite guests outside for a fireworks display—perhaps in your wedding colors—or hand out sparklers.

50. Ride off into the sunset in a wedding car that's sure to make every man whistle, whether it's a sleek Porsche Boxster or the muscle car he coveted as a teenager. Sleuth out your groom's favorite set of wheels, rent it, and surprise him with a getaway he'll never forget.
