Feather Her Nest-Themed Bridal Shower

Legend has it that the first bridal shower was bestowed upon a Dutch girl. Her father didn’t approve of her groom-to-be, so he refused to give her a dowry. Touched by her plight, nearby villagers “showered” her with possessions from their home, so that she could marry the man she loved. According to folklore, this tradition gained roots in the 1890s, when loved ones would put their presents in a parasol and open it over the bride’s head (now that’s a surprise).

All of the guests "joined the flock" at the party by wearing a feather in their hair. Pink, sugar-spun birds’ nests were perched at each table setting and flowers found on the side of the road (including peonies, astilbe and wild roses) brought the theme to life.
