Man Proposes to His High School Sweetheart on Her Last Day of Chemo (With Fireworks!)

After facing cancer together, Lucas D'Onofrio celebrated his high school sweetheart's last day of chemotherapy in the most spectacular way possible — by asking her to spend the rest of her life with him.

The 24-year-old proposed to Tamara Bruzzo, 21, on June 5th at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital in South Florida following her grueling six-week treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

In a Facebook post, the groom-to-be writes, "She said YES!!!! I finally proposed to the woman of my dreams and she said yes. It's a blessing from God and I've waited for years for this moment. Everything we've been through in the last 6 years just proves to show that God and love are everything you need. This was my highschool sweet heart [sic] and I couldn't be happier to have proposed on her last chemo session to end the chapter of cancer on her life and open a new chapter with the both of us together. Thank you for being the most amazing, strong, and supportive girlfriend and best friend. I'm so happy to call you my fiancé right now and can't wait to call you my wife soon enough. I love you more than anything in this world and can't wait for what's to come."

Buzzfeed reports that D'Onofrio made a bouquet of 100 roses himself. He transformed the hospital room with 60 photos of his bride-to-be, 100 flameless candles, and 60 balloons; he even arranged for fireworks to go off the minute she said "yes!" "I hope you all enjoy it as I put lots of time and work on all of this with the help of my family, 2nd family, friends, and nurses at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital! Thank you all who helped me, I couldn't have pulled this off without your help!" he writes on YouTube.

Wishing the soon-to-be newlyweds a long, healthy, and happy life together!
