When Oklahoma residents Richard Cox and Chera Kimiko became engaged after a five-year courtship, the couple was on vacation in Hawaii. They decided to stay local for their wedding. Both avid golfers, Chera, a local news anchor, and Richard, a novelist, chose an unusual venue: the 18th green at The Golf Club of Oklahoma. "It’s one of the most beautiful courses in the state," says Chera.

"In the hours leading up to the ceremony, while Richard and the groomsmen played a round of golf, I relaxed with my mother, sister and best girlfriends, having our hair and makeup done together. It was nice to have some private time with the women in my life."

The night before the wedding, the weather turned unseasonably cold, so the bride bought 140 white pashminas for all the guests and draped them over the ceremony chairs.

Chera, escorted by her father to the ceremony site. For the ceremony, the bride wore a custom-made 95-inch-long veil, trimmed with satin ribbon. Afterward, she changed into a shorter veil for the reception. That veil had been worn by one of her best friends and will now be passed along to the next bride in Chera’s circle of friends.

"At the suggestion of our photographer, Richard and I spent 30 minutes alone together before the ceremony, exchanging cards and gifts. It gave us a chance to talk, and the photographs turned out to be some of our most personal and intimate."
