  • Presidential Suite at Hilton Bora Bora in Nui, Tahiti

Presidential Suite at Hilton Bora Bora in Nui, Tahiti

Overwater bungalows are du riguer in French Polynesia, but not many can boast that they have two stories and an ultra-secluded position at the edge of a long pontoon. This two-bedroom suite offers all that, plus a private pool, an outdoor Jacuzzi, a dedicated in-room spa area, two living rooms and three bathrooms. Décor is traditional Tahitian, with natural woods and tropical prints. Nothing beats a morning cannonball into the multi-blue toned water, just off your sprawling deck.

  • Pavilion Suite at Amanyara in Turks & Caicos

Pavilion Suite at Amanyara in Turks & Caicos

Normally, we aren’t ones for an Asian-influenced feel anywhere west of the Pacific. But Amanyara’s peaceful — and yes, zen — pavilion suites have the distinct power of making you feel as though you’ve left everything behind months ago as opposed to mere hours. And the hardest decision you’ve got to make is where your room is at its most tranquil. Perhaps it’s the two day beds by the entrance. Then there are the outdoor lounging banquettes that are set on a wooden platform suspended over a serene pond. Yet another outdoor spot includes a sunken dining table with comfy seating. Or would you prefer to soak in the tub-built-for-two? Of course, the view of nothing but tropical landscape can be considered the best from the king-size bed that’s set in the middle of the glass-and-timber mini-villa suite.

Premium Ocean View Room at Caneel Bay, a Rosewood Resort, in St. John, U.S.V.I.

While technically not a suite, these ultra-private cottage-like accommodations are so spacious and set in a way that they feel so remote, they needed to make the list. Old-school levered windows and overhead fans keep the oceanview rooms breezy and comfortable, as do the rattan furnishings. Large stone patios are shaded by lush tropical foliage to ensure the ultimate privacy and feature chaise loungers that look out onto the sea.

Ocean Pool Villa at Six Senses Yao Noi Beyond Phuket in Thailand

Of course, staying in the romantic indoor/outdoor rustic yet absolutely luxe rooms help (as does the fact that the resort has its own time zone — hideaway time). The ocean view villas are just a step up from the sandalwood-scented property’s standard room, offering private plunge pools surrounded by large outdoor lounging areas that are perfect for private Thai BBQs all with jaw-dropping views. An extra large outdoor shower that’s artfully shaded by the suite’s surrounding jungle foliage completes the indoor/outdoor bathrooms.

  • Inkaterra Canopy Tree House at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica in Tambopata, Peru

Inkaterra Canopy Tree House at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica in Tambopata, Peru

High above the Amazonian tree tops (90 feet, to be exact) and accessible only via a canopy walk sits this thatched-roofed cabin. The room itself is basic, with limited water and electricity — but that’s all part of the romance. In the evening, when the hurricane lamps are lit and your butler serves you a pisco sour, you can listen to the sounds of the Peruvian jungle as it settles into its night routine. A guided evening excursion across the hotel’s canopy walks is part of the stay.

This room is synonymous with romance. The feeling drips from the classic décor; it gets sexier with the suite’s private Turkish bath and it breathes it sensation with unbeatable City of Light views from the 8th floor terrace. Spa Suites at Chatham Bars Inn in Cape Cod, MA

Think of a traditional New England seaside town, and you’ve arrived at Chatham, a tony enclave that’s home to clapboard homes, a quaint downtown, a historic beachfront lighthouse and a busy, working fish pier complete with visiting seals! And just on the other side of the scenic golf course from it all is Chatham Bars Inn, a storied hotel with a wide porch, golden sand beach and numerous restaurants. There are few hotels in the world that successfully blend historic elements with ultra-modern amenities.
