Honeymoons That'll Make You Feel Like a Celeb

Swing your racket like ace Andy Murray at his Scottish manor or kick back on Sting’s sofa in Tuscany. Here, a few of our favorite honeymoon-perfect celebrity getaways.

Jardin Escondido

With posh properties in Italy, Costa Rica, Belize and more, Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola has proved he’s just as much a hotelier heavyweight as he is a Hollywood one. Jardin Escondido, a seven-room retreat in the hip Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo Soho, is the most intimate of his collection.

Individually appointed rooms are named for members of the Coppola family and each features items that reflect their namesake. The Francis suite contains a trunk that housed the filmmaker’s equipment from the 2009 movie Tetro. The home’s highlight, however, is reflected in its name — the hidden garden — a sunny inner courtyard with a pool and seasonal plantings (room rates start at $274 a night; coppolaresorts.com).

Bedford Post Inn

Though more of an inn than a private home, this eight-room property just north of New York City is the ultimate celebrity getaway. Designed and owned by actors Carey Lowell and Richard Gere, the Bedford Post Inn encompasses an enormous yoga studio and intimate event spaces in addition to the aforementioned guest rooms.

Accommodations are cozy and sumptuous with Frette linens and marble bathrooms. Some have fireplaces. The aptly-named marquee restaurant — The Farmhouse — serves seasonal new American cuisine Wednesday through Sunday. The more casual Barn offers breakfast, lunch and brunch throughout the week (room rates start at $395 a night; bedfordpostinn.com).

Il Palagio

With its rolling grounds, main house, multiple guest villas, swimming pool, tennis court and endless expanse of gardens and fruit trees, Il Palagio is just as one would imagine a grand Tuscan estate. The circa 16th-century villa property and its grounds underwent a massive renovation helmed by Trudie Styler, wife of pop musician Sting. In addition to vacationing here, the couple has celebrated special anniversaries at the sunny estate.

With its postcard-perfect setting and distant mountain views, the villa makes a spectacular wedding. Celebrations can be held on the grand terrace, in the picturesque courtyard or in the labyrinthine wine cellar. In addition to housing a yoga room and recording studio, the property also produces delectable wine, olive oil and honey (rates start at about $12,000 for four-nights in a four-suite guesthouse villa and include breakfast; palagioproducts.com).

Cromlix

There’s a rambling main house, endless lawns and attendants ready to serve at every turn. No, this isn’t the opening scene of Downton Abbey, it’s Cromlix, a Scottish manor recently renovated and reopened by local hero and international tennis champ Andy Murray.

Guest rooms include 10 standard offerings and five suites. Each is individually appointed and overlooks the rolling grounds and surrounding countryside. On-site activities include fishing, archery, falconry, spa-ing and reposing in the billiard or drawing rooms. It goes without saying — the tennis facilities are state of the art (room rates start at about $420 a night and include breakfast; cromlix.com).
