To some couples, the ultimate escape looks like something from a movie: a far-flung Utopia where relaxation comes in the form of coconut-oil massages, powdery white-sand strands and tickle-the-palate cuisine. Enter the South Pacific, where a new crop of spa resorts delivers these goods, providing a decadently romantic honeymoon. Here, the skinny on five spectacular rub-and-wrap hideaways in Tahiti, Fiji and Australia.

Taha'a Pearl Beach Resort, Tahiti

One of the newest and most talked about spas in Tahiti is this resort's Taha'a Manea Spa. Its mantra: "To take care of one's body and one's spirit is to forget worldly noises." The spa's sweeping views—of the resort's white-sand beach and the island of Bora Bora in the distance—will soothe your souls even before your treatment begins. All services incorporate monoi, a natural preparation of coconut oil. Other fresh ingredients used in the treatments include bananas and avocados, to exfoliate and hydrate, and hibiscus, which tones and purifies. The pièce de résistance: the sensual three-hour-and-twenty-minute poe manea, which includes a full-body massage, a facial, and a banana-leaf-and-vanilla-essence body wrap (prepared specially from the resort's home-grown vanilla beans), topped off with a Jacuzzi soak by the sea's edge.

When you're not being stroked, you'll want to explore the island. Visit a vanilla plantation and taste the fragrant bean that's indigenous to Tahiti, or go to a black pearl farm, where you can get a glimpse of these rare and unique gems, also indigenous to Tahiti. For an enchanting sea adventure, reserve the hotel's private boat (a staff member will teach you how to operate it) and sail to a nearby uninhabited island to enjoy a picnic lunch of grilled fish, lobster, sun-ripened tropical fruits and fine French wine. Return at sunset, just in time for a massage for two. Call 800-841-4145.

Katafanga, Fiji

There is no more important or respected form of massage in Fiji than the one used by a bride's female family members to prepare her for her wedding, starting seven days ahead of the event. It was believed that massage would allow her to relax, thereby enhancing her natural beauty. Passed down through the generations, largely from woman to woman, massage continues to be a part of everyday life in Fiji.

At the new Le Spa at Katafanga resort (the name means "smiling beach"), located on its own 225-acre private island in the East Lau group, services are authentically Fijian. Choose from serene indoor treatment rooms or an outdoor sanctuary framed by natural rock formations, foliage and exotic, fragrant flowers. A must: the Pure Fiji Honeymoon Ritual for two. First, you're rubbed with fresh cane sugar mixed with virgin coconut oil (to exfoliate, hydrate and nourish your skin), then covered with a spicy, fragrant mix of roots (to relieve stress and instill a sense of peace). To promote relaxation, you are wrapped in warm banana leaves and given a luxurious coconut milk bath. The grand finale: a beautifully choreographed, Fijian-style massage using exotic nut oils. Every treatment at Katafanga utilizes coconut soaps, virgin coconut oil and sugar scrubs that are painstakingly handmade in Fiji. More than 5,000 villagers throughout the 322-island nation supply the raw materials for these products. There are only 20 bures (thatch-roofed huts) at Katafanga, each with a four-poster bed and filmy netting, sumptuous native-wood furnishings, a marble bath, in-and-outdoor showers, a spa tub for two and a splash pool. Private dining is available every night—in your bure, in the wine cellar or at the "Kitchen Table" (the chef's table), the only one in Fiji. (katafanga.com/spa.html)

Namale Fiji Islands Resort & Spa

Located on Fiji's Vanua Levu island, this luxe property is a serene paradise. Built on a volcanic cliff with a rain forest at its back, the resort's Namale Spa and Sanctuary features glass walls that afford stunning sea views. Bliss-out treatments include the Tandem Treasure, where two spa professionals apply a combination of hot stone, aromatherapy and massage techniques. And the Namale scalp treatment à deux is a heady experience: Warm oil is poured over your hair and your scalps are massaged.

Retire to your villa for a swim in your private infinity pool, followed by a Jacuzzi soak. Delight your taste buds with a dinner of fresh grilled fish and wine in your bure, then collapse onto the Egyptian linen-dressed bed to watch a video (a collection is available at the front desk). Neat trick: A screen drops from the ceiling. (namalefiji.com)

Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji

The name Cousteau conjures images of scuba diving. And this small luxury hotel (just 25 bures), run by Jean-Michel Cousteau, Jacques' son, is a great place to enjoy the underwater sport. But some of the resort's most phenomenal offerings are found on land—in the spa. Try the 90-minute Sweet Tropical Treat, a dancelike, Fijian-style massage during which two therapists rub you down with raw sugar, pineapple and virgin coconut oil. You can enjoy the service at the spa in a treatment bure, or in your own room.

When you "come to" afterward, follow lighted lanterns down the long pier to the Pier's End restaurant for an intimate dinner under the stars, while the Bula Boys (the resort's acoustic guitar group) perform romantic Fijian love songs. Return to your bure to stargaze from the deck. At least one morning, rise at dawn for a private, guided hike through a rain forest. Call 800-246-3454.

Lizard Island Resort, Australia

Like its Fijian and French Polynesian cousins, Australia has its own ancient healing rituals. These were developed largely by the country's Aboriginal tribes, who rely on indigenous plants and muds to ease physical and spiritual ailments. Much of that culture is celebrated at the Lizard Island Resort's Pavilion Spa.

There's a saying at the resort that getting to the hotel is half the fun, and you're sure to agree. You'll fly low over the spectacular Great Barrier Reef, then land on a private airstrip and be greeted with champagne by the hotel's staff. The best room: Premium Villa 1, which has its own plunge pool, an outdoor daybed and stunning views of Sunset Beach and Anchor Bay.

Once settled, bliss out with the "Promised Time" treatment. First, you have an exfoliation rub with lemon myrtle desert salt. Then, your body is cocooned in Clan body mud (pepperberry and peat) and your hair nourished with a quadang (an Australian fruit) masque. After a shower comes a Kodo, a full-body massage using native Australian essential oils and Aboriginal techniques.

Pampered out? Wait, there's more! Reserve a dinghy just big enough for the two of you and a picnic hamper, and have the resort prepare a takeaway lunch—how does seafood, cheese, bread and a bottle of Australian wine sound? Then, motor out to one of Lizard Island's 24 private beaches and snorkel together to your hearts' content. (lizardisland.au.com).
