Vintage Flair: Wedding Gowns by Anne Barge
Drawing on her costume-history knowledge, Anne Barge says her classic designs are borrowed from looks that have transcended time.
Inspired by the dress from the courts of the 1700s and 1800s, Barge's gowns have a vintage flair. Opulent beading and embroidery are among her signature looks, accompanied by full ball gown skirts. No matter your body type, says Barge, off-the-shoulder necklines and gowns with backs that dip in a “v” will flatter your figure.
Anne Barge's Advice:
- Color is a big trend right now, and it can look really gorgeous—but keep it soft and sweet to ensure that your gown retains that magical, ethereal quality.
- It's all too easy to go overboard when you're gown-shopping. Keep each visit to a bridal salon to two hours or less, and once you find the dress, stop shopping! If you keep searching for something better, you're going to get confused because you've seen too much.
- If you're going to wear a veil, a tiara and gloves, keep your jewelry to a minimum. Too much can make you look like a Christmas tree, especially if the dress has beading!
