I was told that the other couple with us was going on a big date that was a surprise for the girl, and Christian and I were going to have dinner in the condo. We cooked lasagna and listened to Josh Groban while we ate.

After dinner, we decided to take a late-night walk on the beach. We bundled up to go outside because it was pretty cold and windy at night. Christian grabbed a bag and asked me to grab my flashlight so we could hunt for shells. Then we headed to the beach. It was a clear night with an almost full moon. The tide was out really far, which gave us good walking sand.

We walked for a while and then paused. Christian told me that he found some presents to give me that he wasn't able to get for Valentine's Day. He handed me a box of candy hearts. However, it seemed like it was empty because I couldn't see anything in it and it was light.

It was taped shut and I asked him why he gave me an empty box. He proceeded to tell me to just open it. So I did, wondering what in the world we were doing. As I opened it, I tried to hold the flashlight so I could see and I peered into the box to see one purple candy heart at the bottom that read "Marry Me". My first reaction was, "WHAT?!"

By this time, he was down on his knee and looking up at me. He asked me to be his wife, told he wanted to be with me forever, and have a family with me. Of course I said yes! We hugged each other in the moonlight. He also had two pennies, one for each of our birth years. These were to throw into the ocean and symbolize getting rid of the past and everything that has happened, and starting our lives together. We held hands and threw our pennies into the ocean.

He also had containers for me to put sand and ocean water in to take home. The sand signified time spent together in the past, present, and future and the water was to symbolize baptism and forgiveness. The moment was so perfect and special I would not have changed a thing!

We walked back in giddy excitement and sat on the steps leading down to the beach to call my parents. They knew for 6.5 weeks about what was going to happen! He proposed to me exactly 6 months after he had asked me to be his girlfriend.

I found out that the other couple's "big date" was really to give us time alone to make the night special and that all three of them had been planning around it the entire week! I had no idea it was coming, and he definitely did a good job on surprising me and making it such a memorable story.
