Linda & Daniel
Daniel and I have been dating for four years, three of them being long distance with him living in California and me in New York. Last year he found a job and moved...
Last year he found a job and moved east to be with me. He is normally quite romantic, so I didn't think too much when he told me Saturday, February 24th would be an all-day date. I had no idea what we were doing. He picked me up on that Saturday morning and took me to Manhattan where we had lunch at Payard, this incredible French patisserie in the Upper East Side.
It was the first sunny day in a while, so we walked over to Central Park and went ice-skating at Wollman rink. Afterwards we walked around the park and found a spot to sit down. Daniel had a present for me. I unwrapped a beautiful journal and inside was a cartoon of our relationship. He told me to read the story out loud. We laughed and reminisced as I read his story of us. He is an incredible artist so the comics really captured moments in our lives. On this one page, Daniel drew himself thinking about the future, and I started to choke up and cry, but he encouraged me to continue reading.
The next pages were about our date that very day! Driving into Manhattan and eating lunch, going ice skating, and the next page said, "What happed next?" and showed a cartoon of me holding the book. Daniel got down on one knee and proposed. I excitedly said yes, and together we turned the next page of the book. My engagement ring was inside! He had hollowed out a square in the journal to place the ring. I had never told him what kind of ring I wanted, but what he custom-designed was exactly my dream ring! He knows me so well! Daniel told me the day was not over; we still had dinner reservations!
After getting ready at home, he picked me up. I asked where we were going but he wouldn't tell me. Finally he said, "Since you are a princess today, I have to take you to a castle." We turned into this large, gated driveway and drove up to the front door of a genuine castle! He took me to Castle on the Hudson, where we had an incredible 5-course meal. By this time my cheeks were hurting because I was smiling so much.
After dinner, he suggested we head over to his place. When I opened the door, I was almost scared away by a loud, "SURPRISE!!!!" Daniel had a surprise engagement party waiting for us. He somehow got the email addresses of all my closest friends (since all his closest ones were still in California) and organized the whole thing. The entire day seemed like a dream; I really did feel like a princess.
