Tara & Justin

My fiancé, Justin, planned a trip to a secret location for our 3rd 'dating' anniversary. When the day arrived, I finally found out we were heading to Chicago...

Where we had our first anniversary, and my favorite city! The days that followed were full of surprises--I never knew what was coming next!

After I found out the Pistons (my favorite NBA team) were playing the Bulls that Friday, I was sure we were going to the game. I asked him, and he told me that we weren"t... he wasn't even aware there was a game, he said. He felt really bad and I was really sad, but tried to hide it. He said we absolutely could not skip what we had to do that night, because it was very special. So I gave up on going to the game.

The next night, as I was about to get ready for the evening, Justin handed me a wrapped package. Inside was a Piston's t-shirt and tickets! He had planned it all along! The following day, Justin surprised me with a manicure and massage at our hotel, then a delicious dinner...we ended up at the place we had our first anniversary.

Afterwards, we had a drink at our hotel bar. After just one drink, though, Justin sent me up to the room alone. He said he had to go do something. A half-hour later, he returned and handed me a card. Inside I found a new room key with a different room number written on it. Into the elevator I went, way up to one of the higher floors. I stepped out of the elevator and found that it was a penthouse floor.

At this point I knew something crazy was happening. I unlocked the door to our room and walked in, where I found 200 lit candles and rose petals covering the entire suite (which was huge with windows looking out over all of Chicago!). I was, of course, bawling by this time, so Justin asked me if I needed a Kleenex. I said yes, and he lifted up the Kleenex box and there was the ring. He got down on his knee and proposed. Of course I said yes!

That's not all! He wouldn't let me call and tell my parents, and I could not figure out why. He told me to wait until the next day and to trust him. The next morning, we went to have breakfast at a nearby hotel. As the hostess was leading us to our table, I stopped dead in my tracks. I had heard my mom's laugh and I knew it. I turned the corner, and both my mom and Justin's mom were waiting for us! They had no idea we were engaged and were so happy to hear about it. Justin had flown them in as yet another surprise. The trip was amazing and it was the best proposal I could imagine!
