My 30th birthday was coming up and I love planning parties, but this year my boyfriend Matt said he would plan a surprise...

I gave him all my friends' and family's emails and just relaxed.

We drove to San Marco, a historic area near our house, and pulled up in front of an old theater. Everyone was there to see a slideshow of my life. It had over an hour of pictures (400!) of me as a baby, teenager, college student—you name it!

I cried, of course, and stood up to thank everyone but the surprise wasn't over. We also got to see a private showing of the film True Romance, one of our favorites.

Matt asked me to walk across the street with him, and I immediately got a feeling of what was going to happen! Tears streamed down my face as we walked to a picturesque fountain.

He sat me down, got on one knee and proposed with an amber ring he bought me a year ago. He said it was not the right ring, but he wanted to ask me today with all my friends and family. I, of course, said yes.

Then he pulled my real engagement ring out of his pocket and I was crying again. He turned around and gave the crowd of 60 or so in front of the theater a double thumbs up. They cheered and ran across the street with cold champagne. We all toasted in front of what I will now forever call "our fountain". It was straight out of the movies.
