Bride of the Year 2005/2006We read hundreds of entries and had hours of debates, and now we've crowned America’s Most Romantic Couple for 2005/6. The lucky winners, Kendra Hull and Robert Thornton of Cincinnati, OH, were featured in the March/April issue, and we learned how Kendra thought she had lost $50,000 -- until her high school sweetheart sprung a surprise marriage proposal on her and revealed that the “auction” they were attending was staged.

But it wasn’t just Rob’s extravagant proposal that gave them the winning edge in our 8th Bride of the Year contest. It was their continued dedication and commitment to one another over nine years that won us over. As Kendra wrote in her application: “Separation, illness, death, financial hardship: whatever hurdles life threw at us we were always able to weather it with strength and grace. We nurtured our love, but also each other, as we stumbled down life’s path into adulthood. It was, and still is, simultaneously scary and exhilarating, but somehow we’ve found a balance between the independence needed to spread our wings and the security of knowing the other person will never let you fall.”

Their story perfectly unites the elements of love, understanding, passion, perseverance, admiration and devotion we found in so many of the remarkable entries sent in -- and we shared some of these stories in the March/April issue as well.
