Bride of the Year 2007We received more than half a million votes in our Bride of the Year contest when we posted the three best entries online—and your choice for the 2007 winning couple was Carrie Surgenor and Brent Warner of Kingsport, TN! Carrie and Brent captured your hearts in our first-ever online voting contest and have won more than $92,000 in prizes for their wedding, honeymoon and new life together.

After living in New York and exploring the world as a flight attendant, Carrie Surgenor moved back to her roots to be with her family in Tennessee. Once home, Carrie grew restless to meet Mr. Right and desperately missed New York. She decided that it was time to move back to the Big Apple. While packing her bags she received a phone call from a family friend asking her out on a date. She agreed to the last-minute date, but little did she know that this man would turn out to be the man of her dreams.

Brent Warner was like no one Carrie had ever met and her move to New York was short-lived. Carrie once again moved back to Tennessee and this time it wasn’t just for her family, but for the man she grew deeply in love with. After seriously dating for a few years, Brent arranged a public and heart-felt proposal. Brent served as a referee at basketball tournament and in front of cameras and 3,000 fans during the half-time show, he invited Carrie onto the court and asked for her hand in marriage. And of course, she happily accepted!

Bride of the Year 2007But it wasn’t just the ironic timing of their first date or Brent’s elaborate public proposal that gave them the winning edge in our 9th Bride of the Year contest—it was their continued admiration and commitment to one another that won America over. As Carrie wrote in her application: “Brent and I are both VERY sensitive and caring people; which helps our relationship stay strong and passionate! Sure we have our little ups and downs, but one thing remains, and that is our devotion to one another…I know Brent is an answered prayer in my life. I catch myself staring at him not even knowing it and falling in love with him again everyday.”

Bride of the Year 2007Their story demonstrates the elements of love, appreciation, passion, determination, admiration and devotion we found in so many of the amazing Bride of the Year contest entries. We shared their story along with our other two finalists' in the September/October issue of 2007.

Then in subsequent issues of Bridal Guide we followed Carrie and Brent’s extraordinary wedding journey, courtesy of our generous Bride of the Year 2007 sponsors.
