World Traveler

Leg one of an amazing trip of a lifetime for me was the 14-hour flight from New York City to Johannesburg. Made it! All things considered, not nearly as uncomfortable as I thought. Scored an empty seat next to me and fashioned a sort of bed and got five hours of sleep.

Johannesburg is another world. We were immediately whisked from the airport to the sumptuous WestCliff Hotel, which overlooks the city and an extraordinary zoo! Since being in South Africa brings animals to mind, it's appropriate that you get to actually see elephants from your hotel balcony your first night here.

Because I am here representing Bridal Guide, I was put up in a bridal suite—yes, it's pretty palatial. You feel like a princess in the exquisite blue toile wallpapered and curatained room with it's dainty French-style furnishings and exquisite botanical prints on the walls. Here, the toile walls and elaborate matching curtains all worked together gorgeously. “Toile's real beauty lies in its fine detail and soothing repetition," explains Gina Shaw, Design Director, York Wallcoverings, "so you can cover a room’s every surface in toile, and the effect is always that of a room enveloped in calm.” The perfect choice for a room designed for relaxation and quality time for a couple.

The only upside to taking a honeymoon solo is the opportunity to catch up on sleep—that is when jet lag wears off a bit, in a day or so. The staff at the Westcliff is extraordinarily kind and accomodating and
funny.

Must dash, off to breakfast then on the plane to safari. Much more to report in my next dispatch from South Africa.
