Smart Appliances

Part deux, ladies, of my appliance extravaganza. The Sears peeps highlighted 4 main categories: Dishwashers, cooking, refrigeration and laundry. Since I would have to write an epic novel to cover ALL the amazing things they showed us, I’ve chosen my favorites in each category.

GE Profile 500 Series Stainless interior dishwasher

Dishwasher—GE Profile 500 Series Stainless interior dishwasher: All the units I saw were fab but what grabbed my eye from the go with this baby was the sleek, panel-free design. The control panel is fully integrated into the top of the door so no ugly buttons to look at. With this hi-tech cleaning machine’s SmartDispense feature, you can pour in an entire bottle of detergent (good-bye goo!) and it will dispense it in the right amount when needed. It also has adjustable racks, a steam-clean mode, single rack wash for smaller loads without wasting energy and a deep-clean cycle that can off even the most baked-on brownies.

Kenmore Elite Dual Oven Range

Cooking—Kenmore Elite Dual Oven Range: This was a toughie; the induction models cut cooking time dramatically and are super stars for energy efficiency but I just love the idea of being able to cook two completely different types of food at the same time. It’s available in both gas and electric models, and has a picture-window door design so you really see what’s going on without opening the door. The electric range has digital temp controls for greater control, and both units feature a 5-element cooking surface, self-cleaning and a true convection oven (with fan and third heat source for even, faster baking and roasting times). And did I mention it’s gorgeous?

I don’t want to overwhelm you, so I will give my other two top picks next time. Cheers!
