Power Cleaning

I don’t know about you, but my house won’t make it until spring for a thorough cleaning. With the holidays right around the corner, family and friends will soon be traipsing in and out of the house, bringing along mud, grass and who knows what else they picked up in the city. Plus, Jack’s grubby little paws bring their fair share of dirt inside on a daily basis.

So if I must clean, I want to use the best and most efficient. Most recently, I tested out the Oreck XL Power Team series of lightweight, portable vacs:

Oreck XL Platinum Power Team Vacuum

There are 4 models (Classic, Silver, Gold, Platinum) and they range in price from $299–$799. Each model comes with a 5 lb. handheld vac for above-the-floor cleaning, perfect for upholstery and stairs. Here are the highlights:

  • Direct suction (102 mph!) concentrates dirt, dust and allergens directly into the vacuum and not back into the air, making your job quick and easy.
  • Specially tipped bristles on the roller bar are safe and effective on even the finest carpets, rugs and hardwood floors.
  • Lays flat for easy maneuverability to get under furniture and kitchen baseboards; also great for storage.
  • IntellaShield technology neutralizes the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew on and in the vacuum so germs are a non-issue.
  • HEPA-hypoallergenic filtration system eliminates 99.9% of dirt, dust mites, allergens, pet dander, mold and pollen.
  • Self-sealing inner disposable bags are easy to change and keep the dirt where it belongs—in the bag.
