Housewares Design Awards 2008
Howdy all! I gotta tell you about the fun I had at lunch yesterday. I was invited to “Housewares Design Awards 2008,” an annual design award given at a luncheon in New York this time of year. It’s like the Oscars of home design, if you will, and awards are given in 13 categories like Cookware & Bakeware, Kitchen Hand Tools and Lighting and Outdoor Living. The winning products are chosen from 320 entries for their innovative appearance and function.
I sat with my friends from the Lodge Mfg. Company, who make the wonderful, famous cast iron cookware. And very nice for them, the first award given out was for their nominated 12-inch seasoned cast iron skillet with stainless steel handles:
Signature Series 12-inch Skillet |
It’s a first that a company has been able to rivet a stainless steel handle to a cast iron pan, and they hold a patent on this design. Henry Lodge, Lodge Mfg. President, was there to collect the award himself.
Other cool products that took home awards yesterday were a small magnetic light from Outset, Inc. that attaches to a spatula to guide your burger flippin’ once the sun sets and the Flipper 4-in-1 Measuring Spoon by Trudeau, made of rubber, which flips over into different-sized spoons. Luckily, I got to take home the BBQ light in the swag bag, and I can’t wait to try it when summer finally gets here.
