Gadget Gals

Hi all! The other day I had a fun deskside visit, and I’m excited to tell you all about it. Tara Steffen, the National Marketing Manager for kitchen equipment and cookware companies Cuisipro, Mauviel, Emile Henry and Rösle, came by the office with their PR person (and old friend) Susan Jardina to show me all their great new tools (two heavy suitcases in fact) for baking, general cooking and the upcoming holidays (amazing new gravy fat separator).

All their products are super-high quality. Case in point: their new $40 grill brush (which will be available in September) has brass bristles that turn so a different side is exposed, extending the life of the replaceable cleaning head. This is the ultimate tool for your guy if he's master of the grill in your home. And I love the new colors for Emile Henry stoneware dinnerware: slate, sky and sand...they scream BEACH, which is on my mind these days.

Rösle’s new luxe barbecue tools include a stainless steel grill brush with brass heads and rolls that can twist around to expose a new side.

Later, they invited me and my dear friend Sharon Franke, Kitchen Appliances & Technology Director at The Good Housekeeping Research Institute, to have dinner with them at the gorgeous Southgate restaurant in the Essex House Hotel on Central Park South. We all sat in the large, modern room, which had a fireplace burning on one wall and a 70's-inspired wall of pieces of mirror hung in a three-dimensional random order. I ordered the pea flan with morrells as an appetizer, as I'd heard the Executive Chef Kerry Heffernan was famous for his flans, and it didn't disappoint—smooth and flavorful. For an entree, I had a hanger steak that was served with three delicious raviolis.

To finish up I had a passion fruit meringue tart that came with a passion fruit mini-soda, served in a shot glass, and coconut sorbet. Passion fruit is my weakness, so if it's on the menu, I will order it. It was so good, I secretly vowed to come back and have it at the bar with tea (and get out for under $20). Since we are all moms, of course the conversation started with a round of showing baby pics (Tara's nine-month-old Clark is such a gorgeous child!). Sharon wins the award as the most organized with pics of her granddaughter arranged in a mini album from every stage of her life up to now (she's two). It was a lovely night—thanks again Tara and Susan.
