Fire Up the Grill
For me summertime = barbecue. Although July 4th has come and gone, there’s plenty of summer left, and delicious meals to come. On vacation earlier this month, I hosted a barbecue for 16 (!!!) of my nearest and dearest. The whole family pitched in—my wonderful brothers Curphey and Jack prepped all the veggies and hamburgers for the grill while Kerry made a last-minute run for charcoal fuel.

And when it dawned on all of us that my itsy bitsy barbecue wouldn’t come close to holding all the meat and the veggies, my inventive brothers and dad built an extra one out of old bricks and fashioned a grinding wheel into something to hold the grate in place. It wasn’t pretty but it sure did the trick!
Extra homemade barbecue...we needed extra space for the veggies. |
Then the five of us all took turns food flipping and trying to feed seven kids who preferred to be walking on the sunset beach. If you’re looking for something pretty and very practical to register for, consider the new tools from Cuisinart (cuisinart.com): stainless tongs, chef’s fork and spatula have Dutch blue Santoprene handles with grey accents, contoured for a super comfy grip.
The tools all do double duty; the spatula has a bottle opener on the handle and serrated edged for slicing meat, the stainless tongs have a scooper for veggies and sauces, while the fork has 3 prongs with a middle prong designed longer to pierce food easier.

The platters safely hold delicate food items, from tilapia to fruit kabobs. And the grates on the grilling surface feature a reinforced stainless steel finish that helps prevent pieces of food from falling through the grill top ($29.99–$39.99). The four-inch deep grilling basket has a large 12” x 7” grilling surface designed for faster, even cooking ($29.99). Finally, the round grilling wok is 3 1/2” deep, designed for safe shaking and turning of stir-fry fish, meats and vegetables ($39.99). Clever detachable handles on the wok and grilling baskets/platters means you can close a grill on them.
Tool sets range in price from the Master Set, $119.99, to the Essential Grill Set, $59.99, or individually for $19.99 each, and $24.99 for the Cleaning Brush. So why not go for the tool upgrade and wrap your hands around a set of tools you’ll be proud to flip a burger with. Pass the ketchup!
