Affordable Art
I loved The Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition of Martin Puryear’s mainly wood abstract sculptures that combine an observation of nature with an interest in industrial shapes. I went with my husband (and five-year-old son) and Max took a brochure of the show and made a game out of finding the sculptures pictured in the brochure.
Then a week later, lo and behold, I was at an editor’s preview show of products to launch at the International Housewares Show in Chicago in March, and I heard a PR pal, David say, “Yes this pan scraper was designed by Martin Puryear.” I did a double take! iSi’s Basics Pan Scraper is designed to help clean stuck on stuff without damaging surfaces of cookware—even non-stick coatings. The sharp edges gets under food residue while the blade itself rotates to access all the corners and edges of a pan.

It’s a rare opportunity to own a minimalist, practical—and bargain priced—tool designed by a world famous artist. And if you can see the show I’d recommend it, although it closed at MoMA January 14 it will travel to San Francisco and other cities in the next year. ($15. momastore.org).
