Add a Little Charm

For some women, walking the New York Gift Show at the Javits Center when they are nine months pregnant might not be an ideal situation. But did I mention how much I love my job??? The gift show happens twice a year, and for me, it’s like having Christmas in February and August—and I wasn’t about to let something like a pregnancy get in the way of my fun. (Plus, it’s given me a ton to share with all of you in the three months that I will be home!).

On the last day of the show, cutting through the jewelry section to grab a much deserved pretzel, I passed a booth with tote bags hanging on the wall that said things like “Your plastic bag can kiss my canvas!” and “What would Al Gore do”. It was enough to make me laugh, put my pretzel mission on hold, and go in (I’m still eco-obsessed).

Well, I’m so glad I did because I discovered the most charming “jewelry for the home” collection called House Blessings. Basically, they have 20+ brass charms, in an array of designs, which bring good thoughts and fortune to your home. I especially liked the Kitchen Blessing (a wish bone), Happiness (keys) and Celebration (a humming bird searching for the sweetness of life). They are a great addition to a bottle of wine, a plant or even just a handwritten note, and elevate a mundane housewarming gift to a more personal level. Plus, long after the vino is gone or the plant wilts (maybe that’s just in my house with my lack of a green thumb!), they have a beautiful reminder of the good wishes you sent them.
