Slacking Off

I feel bad that Nichole’s basically been the only one updating around here, and I’m going to make more of an effort to pick up the slack. Although, this lack of involvement kind of mirrors my participation in my friend’s planning process. It’s been tough for me to get excited and be all gung ho like I have in the past.

One reason is I’ve gone through this many times before, as you well know. At this point, I need to watch myself before I turn into a Maidzilla—a bridesmaid who thinks she knows it all. There have been a few moments where I’ve found myself wanting to take the reigns and just be the wedding planner, but I’ve resisted and stepped back to the point where I’ve been pretty nonexistent lately. This is probably a good thing, because my friend has already made all the big decisions and now only needs to worry about the smaller details. She’s come along fine in this whole planning process all on her own, and with a little help from her fiancé, of course.

The other reason is that I work in the world of weddings. Don’t get me wrong, I love weddings, and yes, I am that girl who has her own big day all mapped out in her head. But when you’re reading, writing, editing—just consumed by all things wedding all day, all week, the last thing you really want to do is spend your free time in wedding-planning mode.

The good news is that she’s added to her bridal party, so I’ll be sharing altar space with three other girls. This is great because it takes some of the pressure off me and gives me more helpers when it comes time to plan the bridal shower.

In the coming weeks I’m sure I’ll have more to dish and talk about as all the madness starts.
