Save the Date
This past weekend officially marked the beginning of my maid-of-honor duties. The bride and I decided to meet in Manhattan to look at the save-the-date cards and invitations she wanted at Print Icon, a stationery store/printer in Manhattan. She described them to me over the phone and they definitely sounded unique, which is why I had to go and see them in person. When I saw them, I knew they’d be perfect for this fun couple.
This is the save-the-date card she ended up buying:
It’s so perfect because that’s exactly what she has on her ring finger: a giant ring.
Now, I don’t want you thinking that she just wants to brag about the size of her ring with this card. The point was to send something funny and cheeky, and I thought it was a cute idea. My friend was perfectly fine with the idea of getting a simple, modest ring so they could use the money to pay for the practical things like bills, a down payment on a house, groceries, etc. Luckily, she found a great guy who wanted to give her something she really wanted, something that could one day become a family heirloom passed down to future generations. So yes, it’s a big, pretty ring, but what you can’t see is what makes it so special—the thought, hard work and love that went in to making it.
Before our wedding excursion ended we were able to secure an appointment for a gown fitting and go through every wedding magazine at Barnes & Noble. With the wedding only 8 1/2 short months away, I think I can expect many of my weekends to look a lot like this.

This is the first wedding I've helped plan in NYC, so it's all kind of new to me. The best advice I can give is to shop around. Getting recommendations from people helps a lot, too. My friend just recently hired a florist. I think they're from Queens, but I'll have to double check. Anyway, she looked at a few before settling on the one. I think what helped her make the decision (other than the price) was their willingness to work with her ideas, share their own and then create samples based on what they came up with. Because they were able to recreate what she saw in her mind, she was sold. For the photography, she knew exactly what she wanted and luckily she found a photographer who could give that to her. Since photography was her one splurge and the most important thing to her, she wanted to make sure she found the best. Basically, I think it's important to know what you want and to be able to convey that to the vendors. So far we haven't run into anything to horrible, but we still have a few months to go.

My best friend and future maid of honor started preliminary wedding planning yesterday. We're going to Barnes & Noble this weekend as well. And we will be looking at many stores in Manhattan, LI & Queens. Please advise of any do's and don'ts you've encountered in NYC Wedding planning so far. We'd love advice. Thanks
