Your Own Personal Shopper

Ever feel like your fiancé is clueless about what to buy you? And that goes for jewelry too? Fear not: Amber Berger and Jennifer Rosenthal, the duo that founded personal jewelry shopping service 27 Facets, helps clients—60 percent of whom are clueless men, according to Amber—choose jewelry gifts. This could be not only for the bride, but for the bridal party, the bride’s mother and father, the flower girl…you get the idea.

A few lovely pieces

When I talked to Amber, she explained to me that men tend to be more intimidated when it comes to buying jewelry. They’re not always sure what to buy, what's in style and what the value is in the piece they are considering.

So Amber, who has a luxury-goods buying background and Jen, a certified gemologist and appraiser, swoop in. They consult with clients to get a sense of their budget and for whom they are buying. They ask questions like: Is her style classic? Trendy? Where does she work? Then they select a few pieces they think the client would like, bring them to their home or office (if it’s in the New York area—if it’s not, they mail the client pictures of the jewelry), and, once the client makes their choice, wrap and deliver it.

That should take all the guesswork out of choosing the perfect gift. Especially for him. Because wedding jewelry is the stuff you’ll be wearing for decades to come. You shouldn’t just like it—you should love it!
