The Star Treatment

Marilyn Monroe once said, “Everyone is a star and deserves the right to twinkle.” Of course, far from all of us can afford glitz and glamour, especially with the current economy. But despite the plunging Dow, real brides like you can feel like a star with services like these:

You can dazzle your guests by strutting into your engagement party the way the stars do—down a plush red carpet. Through Red Carpet Runway, you can rent a carpet and logo backdrop that features your and your fiancé’s name, wedding date or whatever else you dream up. The vinyl carpet is easily portable since it can be rolled up, and is even available in hues other than red, including black, blue, green, lime-green, off-white, pink, purple and orange—pick one to match your wedding theme!

I love this idea for a bachelorette party: Celeb4ADay provides you and your gang with “personal paparazzi”—a group of real photographers who pretend to be paps and follow you around for a night, taking pictures and asking questions. The “star” later gets a fake gossip magazine with her face on the cover. Company founder and owner Tania Cowher says that with bachelorette parties, this often results in hilarious questions like, “How does Donny feel about you going out with George Clooney?” (Donny being the bride-to-be’s future husband.) Warns Cowher: Wear sunglasses! All those flashes are bright.

You know those cute slideshows couples show at the rehearsal dinner or reception? Why not make yours the opportunity to star in your own professional-quality movie? LifeFilm Productions interviews a couple’s family and friends to put together a documentary-style film about their relationship, usually shown at the reception. The movies typically include stories of the bride and groom’s childhoods, how they met and how they got engaged. The filmmakers have real TV and film experience, and they integrate the interviews with home videos, photos and original footage they shoot of the couple.

Attention L.A. brides: Beverly Hills Rent-A-Car rents cars like the Mercedes Maybach (loved by Beyonce and Jay-Z) and Bentley Azure (loved by J-Lo) for a few thousand dollars a day. So you can ride to the ceremony—and into the sunset with your groom just like your favorite celebs!
