Green Gear, Continued
Happy Earth Day! It’s appropriately beautiful weather here in New York today—makes me love the planet even more—so I was inspired to give you a few more eco-friendly wedding hints.
One of my favorite jewelry designers to work with, Tina Tang, created this tote, made of 100% organic cotton. Use it to haul around your wedding planning gear, as a reusable shopping bag, or give it to your ’maids as a gift. (It would be perfect paired with Tina’s “ReLeaf” necklace we feature in our May/June issue.) Make a purchase on the website today, and the company will plant a tree.
Attention San Fran brides. The new California Academy of Sciences will be opening in Golden Gate Park September 2008, and it’s now accepting reservations for wedding receptions taking place in 2009. Not only will it be a beautiful building when it’s finished (it was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano) but it’s being built with a variety of eco-friendly initiatives. This includes a “living roof” which will reduce storm water runoff and produce energy to help power the building. The coolest part? You can have dinner alongside a colony of African penguins or sip cocktails next to an alligator swamp. Now that’s enjoying nature!

Another way couples are honoring the great outdoors is to have their ceremonies at their favorite beach, garden, lake, forest or backyard. Especially on warm days, guests at outdoor weddings need to be properly hydrated. Santa Cruz Organic Sparkling Lemonade is not only USDA certified organic, but the company is so eco-friendly its been recognized by the Waste Reduction Awards Program. Most importantly, the lemonade is delish.

Jayda, a letterpress stationery designer, recently went green by printing their invitations on 100% cotton paper with soy-based ink. A perfect marriage of elegance and eco-friendliness.

Beaucoup is an online favor resource that has many appearances in Bridal Guide. The site has stocked up on eco-friendly favors, like these Bloemboxes. Each reusable box is filled with a “ribbon” made of flower seeds. Guests can plant them in their own gardens and watch them bloom.
