Do I Smell a Trend?
First off, let me apologize for my brief hiatus from Bridal Buzz. I’m now back from my beach vacation—and what popped up on my computer screen but the idea that brides are starting to “scent” their weddings. As if you don’t have enough to think about: the décor everyone sees, the music they hear, the vows you speak and the food they’ll taste. And now what they’ll smell too? This might be going too far, I thought.

But then I remembered a real wedding we featured in our May/June 2008 issue’s “Wedding Album” section. Jessica is a natural perfumer and really wanted scent to be at the forefront of their wedding. (Along with a bunch of eco-friendly touches—what a cool bride!) So she had her “flower fairies” (a.k.a. bridesmaids) toss really fragrant petals and had these delicious floral scents everywhere throughout the day.

And just imagine the amazing “scentscapes” (yes, that’s a word people are using these days) you could create by burning scented candles or using naturally fragrant elements as part of the décor. Pine and cinnamon for a winter holiday bash. Pumpkin or apple for a fall fete. A spring floral scape, like the one Jessica did. And for a summer celebration, a scent that’s wonderfully beachy—like coconut or citrus—that would bring me back to my days on the beach!
