The Parenthood actor stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and opened up about his recent no-frills wedding to actress Kristen Bell!
The two opted for a surprise courthouse ceremony, which didn't come as a huge shock for fans of the couple. "I feel like we get enough attention in our daily lives, and we just want something sort of private that involves pen and paper," Bell has said about their wedding plans.
And it didn't involve much more than pen and paper. Shepard revealed to Kimmel, "I'm a frugal person. Your wedding, when I was there — thanks for having me — there were helicopters overhead. It felt like an episode of 'M*A*S*H," the actor said, referring to Kimmel's lavish, star-studded wedding this past summer. "Not that I was counting your money, but I was counting your money because it was flying out the windows. They were setting it on fire at the place."
"We all appreciated it, but I made a mental note when I watched that. I thought: I'm going to go a different route. So we went to the Beverly Hills Courthouse and — all in, with fuel to get there — $142 out the door."
Two friends joined them at the courthouse after they said "I do" with a tongue-in-cheek cake. "It was just Kristen and I at this lonely courthouse, so they brought us this cake afterwards," he said. "‘The World’s Worst Wedding.’ How many people can say they threw ‘The World’s Worst Wedding?’”
Not included in that $142 — the engagement ring and wedding ring he purchased for his new wife. "That was expensive as hell," he admitted. Shepard opted not to purchase a ring for himself, but that may be changing; Kimmel offered to take him shopping to the same place he bought his own surprisingly cheap wedding ring — Costco, where he spent $340! "That's twice the cost my wedding, though. That's a weird proportion to have," Shepard joked.
What do you think of their low-key wedding?
