Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard tied the knot yesterday in a surprise "no frills" ceremony at the Beverly Hills County Clerk office! The Veronica Mars actress, 32, and Parenthood actor, 38, arrived to get their marriage license, but when a court employee offered to marry them in a nearby courtroom, they decided to go for it. Bell shed tears as she and her fiancé of four years exchanged vows.
"I feel like we get enough attention in our daily lives, and we just want something sort of private that involves pen and paper," Bell has said about their wedding plans.
After their engagement in 2009, the new parents (daughter Lincoln is seven months old) famously declared that they would not marry until everyone had the right to do so.
"The reason we’re not rushing to get married is because I don’t feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that’s denied to my [gay and lesbian] friends. That’s why we’ve been so hesitant, ” she told The Advocate in 2012. “Dax and I have talked about it a lot, and this issue is very important to both of us. We’re just standing up for what we believe in. Period.”
When the Defense of Marriage Act was declared unconstitutional this summer, Bell re-proposed to Shepard on Twitter: "@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove."
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
